Supporting local and environmentally friendly farming, Walsin Lihwa works with TaiwanKiwi to promote contract farming of organic kiwifruits. In mid-September, the kiwifruits were harvested.
Along with worsening extreme climate, Taiwan experienced droughts and heavy rains from time to time in the past 10 years. In addition to constant shortages of the water for livelihood and industries, agriculture bore the brunt. In the summer of 2021, the trellis on which the kiwifruits were grown for Walsin Lihwa’s contract farming collapsed after it was crashed by a heavy rain, and many kiwifruits fell in muddy yellow water. In the spring of 2023, a drought incurred unsatisfactory blossoming, and then the very rainy summer made rotten kiwifruits fall off. As a result, the harvest was seriously affected.
After many twists and turns, the remaining kiwifruits were finally harvested in mid-September. They were shared with Walsin Lihwa’s plants in Taiwan as well as important business partners who provides long-term support to the company. This was intended to help savor the deliciousness of golden kiwifruits that have been baptized by nature and matured naturally.
